It is positioned as “A Premier Multi Faculty Post Graduate (Co-Educational) Institution’ which imparts quality and value based education in the wide spectrum of commercial, vocational, technical and professional streams under the faculties of Commerce, Science, Information Technology and Arts.
The department of Biotechnology was established in August, 1994 with the introduction of the vocational course of Biotechnology at undergraduate level. Applied Bioscience faculty offers a wide range of academic opportunities including 2 Master’s Degree programmes, 2 Honours Undergraduate Programmes, and Undergraduate Science degree programme with various combinations and number of certificate programmes. There is great demand for the courses offered by the Bioscience faculty. Ratio of applications to the available seats was 20:1 last year. SD College is the first choice of all the top ranking students amongst all the reputed colleges of this region. The centre student-faculty ratio is 15:1. In a short span, The Bioscience faculty has become known for its creative, interdisciplinary approach in various programmes and research that give students broader and deeper perspectives of research. This has been made possible by outstanding faculty members. Besides being highly qualified, they are caring, generous and inspire students to question, think critically, and explore. Our faculty members are always accessible and constantly encourage students to pursue in-depth inquiry and engage in discussions that further illuminate and expand learning. The Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi has recognized the strength of the College Science programmes by selecting it as “Star College in Life Science” Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India in 2009. GGDSD College has also been chosen as a “A College with Potential for Excellence” and “Biosciences” as STAR Department by UGC for funding of Infrastructure and Research programmes. The college has also recognized as “FIST College” by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Students of Biotechnology department have not only excelled academically, but have also shown their talent in the extra curricular activities and excelled in other activities as well. Department organizes various fests, seminars and lectures by eminent scientists, technical workshops and cultural events from time to time which help in the overall development of the students.
We have created a strong research infrastructure in partnership with local institutes and through the development of Central research facility. Our mission is to provide high quality education and to encourage students to work on challenging tasks and to make them technically expert for the competitive market.
